About Sarah-Allen Preston

Two of the most fabulous things in life? Paper and pearls, of course! My name is Sarah-Allen Preston, and I started this blog to showcase my inspiration and projects for my paper + event design company, Sarah-Allen Preston Designs. -Xs

What is UP!?

If you follow me on Instagram (thank you!), you have probably noticed a lot of posts featuring Sharyn Blond Linens and mentioning products of mine that they are carrying now! I made the transition without a lot of explanation and have had lots of people asking me what I’m doing! Here’s the 411. I am now working out of Sharyn Blond, a fabulous home decor boutique that carries an eponymous line of hand-embroidered linens (sidenote: I have been designing for her on the side for several years now). I’m still me, it is still Sarah-Allen Preston Designs, I just have an incredibly beautiful area now to meet clients, and offer a variety of retail products like boxed correspondence cards, holiday party goods, personalized stationery, and custom party products! I also still do wedding and event design, consultation, and all related paper products (hire me!).

Here are some of the fun retail products we have in the store right now:Screen shot 2014-10-14 at 1.52.33 PM Screen shot 2014-10-14 at 1.52.17 PM Screen shot 2014-10-14 at 1.52.03 PM Screen shot 2014-10-14 at 1.52.59 PMSo many fun and giftable goodies for the holidays!

I also just had some of my wedding paper from the last year photographed–finally! I’m still waiting on a few to be finished up, but thought I’d give a little preview of what is coming to my new website soon!

Emmy Fashion 2014

The Emmys had a serious case of the Mondays this year. If you couldn’t tell from the multiple jokes laid on thhhhick by Seth Meyers in his intro monologue– they actually took place on a Monday, which is weird– and if celebrities are anything like me (and obviously if they like to double down on Ched ‘R’ Peppers and Mozzarella Sticks at Sonic, they ARE), getting dressed up to go to an event on a Monday nights sounds pretty terrible. So, I wasn’t super impressed by the fashion, save for a couple of major WOW moments, and thought it was pretty sloppy overall, but I get it. Mondays are for yoga pants, not ballgowns. Here are some of the ladies that nailed it.

Best1Julia Roberts looked so sassy in this short dress. I love the texture, shape, and the shoes and casual hair were styled wonderfully. I think this look is so “her” but fancy-version… love it. Sofia usually bugs me with the constant jewel tone mermaid gowns, but this one is different. I love the structure and overall styling, with the glam-yet-soft hair, and geometric earrings that complement the light detail on the dress. The look is much more contemporary than she usually goes, and it def works.  Best2How freaking darling does Kiernan Shipka look? I swear her stylist is a genuis, because every awards show, she looks fashionable but age appropriate, which must be SO hard to do with teenage girls. I love the length of this dress, and the drop waist detailing adds a “high fashion” touch. Hair and shoes- perfection. And Sarah Hyland was one of my FAVORITE of the night. Seriously, this is what I want to look like all of the time. It’s a modern spin on Gwyneth’s pink Oscar dress—so classic, but with a young, fun twist that totally hits the mark. Love the colors, love the hair, love everything. I can’t stop looking at it.  Best3Debra Messing and Camila Alves rocked these classic silhouettes with cut-out patterns. Seriously, rocked. Not really sure what Matthew McConaughey is wearing but I loved his and Woody’s presentation speech so I’ll let this slide. Jimmy Kimmel’s joke about him winning the BET for Best Male Artist of the year was also REALLY funny… So even though the fashion was kinda ehhh, at least the jokes were good. Best4Gwen Stefani looked amaze in this Versace number. It was so chic and glam and cool… as I imagine her to be. And Julia Louise Dreyfus… I can’t even. She looks like a million bucks.

bestThese two were my faves of the night… and Sarah Hyland, but Lizzy Caplan’s train was too long for me to show all three of them together. Loved Allison William’s modern gown. I thought it was the perfect balance between elegant and quirky, Carrie Bradshaw but without any overly obnoxious touches. Girlfriend might need to join me at Sonic for some mozz sticks, but other than that, she looks great. Lizzy Capan freaking KILLED IT. I love her (Party Down, anyone?) but her style has always seemed a bit… not this. This is so sleek and glam, fits her well, and is styled to perfection. A+. And then… there’s this… Worst2Katherine Heigl. Blanche Devereaux called, and she wants her gown back. And Amanda Peet. WTF is wrong with your hair. Nay, WTF is wrong with whoever let you leave the house like that?! I didn’t love the dress either… I couldn’t even tell she was pregnant from the front and thought she just picked the most unflattering dress EVER… It’s cuter from this angle, and by cuter I mean “less frumpy like a couch, more frumpy like a window treatment”…in a dorm room. In the 70’s. Vom. Worst1Dear Lena Dunham. We get it. You are not to be defined. You are not to be put in a box. You do you, girl. But, can I just ask, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?! This wouldn’t look good on ANYONE. Freaking Gisele couldn’t pull off the ombre tiered tulle skirt with the poofy cap sleeve button down. I just really hope she was never photographed next to Sarah Hyland, because I think they might have been going for the same look, and one totally worked and the other is this. Also. The hair. And the makeup. And in the other corner, we have Mayim Bialik, who decided to do her best sister-wife drapery jewel tone Renaissance Festival impression. The fact that she doesn’t have a man in a puffy white shirt and a feathered cap playing the lyre next to her is really throwing me off.  Worst3After those last two, these almost seem like they should be bumped up to BEST dressed, but I just wasn’t loving Anna Gunn’s look. Very seventies, but overdone, between the hair and the color palette… I could have done with one or the other but all together it is just a little off. Laura Prepon. Is that flappy thing a collar?  There’s just a lot going on here. Worst4Last but not least, Kerry Washington’s weird Halloween dress… A little too sparkly, a little too much black-sequin shorts coming out of the slit. Also, the hair. (I know, I know, it was a MONDAY). And I really didn’t like Taylor’s dress. I think nude is over, it didn’t fit that well, and it makes her look dead. If you want to know what I really think.

What did you think about the fashion this year!?

Bridesmaid Gifts

We are kicking off a big wedding weekend today! BFF + GGE (greatest guy ever) = Fun with a capital F. As I started packing my bags (ok, not really but I thought about doing it) last night for the all-day bride & bridesmaid glam-a-thon on Saturday to get ready for the wedding, I was wishing that my bags looked a little more “wedding”y. I love me some L.L. Bean totes, but mine don’t match my makeup bags which is a TOTAL buzzkill, and they are definitely not the wedding colors. Plus, am I just going to carry my bridesmaid dress up to the Presidential Suite in the plastic bag it came in?! Like some sort of bridesmaid VAGABOND?! I’m having anxiety just thinking about it. Friends and clients always ask me for bridesmaid gift ideas, and I feel like my answers have been on repeat for the last few years, but fear not, inspiration has struck! Here are some ideas for bridesmaid gifts that your maids can use to pack for primping the day of, and will use as a cute, casual travel set for many weekends to come!

3 1 4 21. Cute Tote (Apparently I really can’t break away from the Boat n’ Tote aesthetic- thanks, Mom…)

2. Monogrammed Garment Bag: This is actually where I got my idea for this post. How cute would this be?! Functional and unique!

3. Monogrammed Clutch to match your bridesmaids’ dresses. Because 1) everyone’s always worried about whether or not to bring a purse and 2) how flippin’ cute would a picture of all these clutches, abandoned on the table after dinner for dancing be?! Someone PLEASE do that (even if it’s staged) and send the picture to me.

4. Monogrammed Makeup Bag. I obviously did all of these items in a kelly green and navy palette, and am SO happy I did, because my search brought me to this DARLING patterned bag!

Just picture your besties gliding in to get ready, tote on one arm, matching garment bag on the other. They casually pull out make-up cases that perfectly complement their other bags and then slip their lipsticks into a clutch that matches everything to a T. And this is all in your wedding colors. BE STILL MY HEART!

I might have a problem.

Baby Box!

3What do new moms want? FOOD. And not to have to think about what to eat and how to hunt/gather/cook/clean it up. So many amazing friends brought us dinner via a Mealtrain that one of my best friend’s organized after Press was born, and Marc and I could not have been hungrier or happier every night when a smiling face walked through the door with a delicious dinner. It’s such a great idea because 1) you get fed and 2) you get to see people besides your immediate family and favorite television stars. But then they leave. And then it’s baby blur fest nighttime, and then morning and you’re alone and starving. One of my friends offered to bring us a second dinner after the meal train was over, and I looked at her and straight up said, “You know what? That would be great, but what I really want is BREAKFAST.” She is such a good cook and so creative and brought over an amazing box of breakfast goodies. It was the PERFECT meal gift, and so I mixed it up a bit and have been making these baby boxes for a few months now (especially if there isn’t a Mealtrain to get involved in). Sometimes I miss a new mommy baby box (sorry!) because… 8 month old. And wedding season. But mostly 8 month old. So blame Press. I dare you 🙂 ANYWAY, I digress. I finally got around to photographing one of these baby boxes, and voila! 7 2 1 4 5 8

This box is for a boy, so I picked this turquoise chevron box. To be honest, girl boxes are wayyyy more fun to pick out, but I thought this one was pretty damn cute.
Before I had a baby, I got my friends post-baby gifts like Veuve and US Weekly. Bitch, PLEASE. Ain’t no new mom got time for that! Here is my much improved list (I buy local products as much as possible, so sub in your own brands!)

Box: Paper Source (shoebox size) || Wolfermann Blueberry English Muffins || Bonne Maman Strawberry Jam || Hippie Chow Cafe Blend Granola || Shatto Butter || Chobani Strawberry Banana Yogurt || Simply Orange Juice (because these bottles are just too cute) || Dunkin Donuts Hazelnut Coffee (a Radasky fave)

Springtime Shower

088A few weeks ago (months? what day is it?) my favorite people in the world and I hosted a bridal shower for one of our best friends. We played with her wedding colors, dialed up the “girly” for this personal shower, and really let the hot pink, gold, chevron and floral patterns run wild. Lon Lane’s Inspired Occasions served up some DE-lish light bites, and the signature cocktails were flowing. A friend (and local party/style guru) and I made sure everything from the invitations to the signage to the guest towels was branded with flair. I arranged the simple florals, and she created that FAB floral wreath of the couple’s wedding monogram. A fun trivia game focusing on the bride and her move from Kansas to Texas kicked off the unwrapping of the gifts, and cookies with the same design as the invitations sent guests out the door (hopefully wanting more!)038044053054055056061073080085091093101103107114116124088

3 in 1

Welp, looks like I am a little bit behind again! We had a good friend’s wedding in Palmetto Bluff two weekends ago, which was a blast, but definitely threw me off of my schedule, so I have been working 110% on clients’ projects with no free time for other creativity. The blog and a couple of blank canvases have been calling my name…but in my free time, Press seems to drown them out! So! As I am literally running with one Manolo on out the door to a ladies’ luncheon (something I literally NEVER thought I would do… like ever) I thought I would just do a quick post of three things I have been doing/thinking about/loving! How nice is it to be able to do what you are thinking about and love it?! Sometimes I really need to remember how wonderful life is!

I’ve been designing, creating and addressing some fabulous Save the Dates….

svdChowing DOWN on this Avocado Cilantro salad dressing from Skinnytaste. We added a second avocado and made it a dip last night. Which I also ate for breakfast.
